3.

1999 Radikon, Ribolla Gialllo, Collio, Italy: Amber golden with a hint of rosé, slightly dusty, fine tears. Rather disgusting nose of heavily oxidized fortified sweet wine. Medium body, taste after a dry oxidized Sherry, lots of phenolic substances, very dry. Medium finish, very long aftertaste, kind of mouth impregnating. Not your everyday wine - not very good to drink but you will remember this. Gained a bit with some air and when getting a bit warmer in the glass.

Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 10 for bouquet + 14 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 83.

Not blind. Not decanted. Small ISO standard tasting glass.

Medium body, intense fruity and bit spiky acidity, nice tannins. Intense red fruity acidity in the aftertaste. Nice to drink stand alone or with snacks or may be as contrast to sweets like glaced chestnuts, else not so good to pair with food.

Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 91.

Not blind. Not decanted. Riedel Vinum Burgundy glass.

2000 Quinta de la Rosa, Reserve, Douro Tinto, Portugal: Medium but brilliant purple, black core, fat tears. Dark fruity slightly alcoholic nose, spicy bit of lovage. Medium body, nicely balanced, some dark and red fruit, good acidity, good but not obvious tannins. Medium finish, long aftertaste after spicy red fruit with good acidity, only a hint of bitterness in the end. Quite versatile with food, no great wine but rather satisfying.

Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

1996 Salaparuta, Duca Enrico, Nero d'Avola, Sicily, Italy: Light ruby/dark garnet, bright, medium tears. Soft dark and red fruity nose, not very expressive, some oak. Medium body, decent dark and red fruit, good acidity, soft but persistent tannins. Velvety aftertaste with some fruity acidity. Not the dark intense wine one would expect from a Nero d'Avola, rather fine with nice acidity. Versatile with food.

Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 89.

Not blind. Not decanted. Riedel Vinum Syrah glass.

Medium body, low to no fruit, intense acidity, some harsh tannins, not very well integrated. Slightly bitter and coarse in the aftertaste. I suspect here a low TCA taint. Acceptable with spicy food like pheasant or game, stand alone not drinkable.

1989 Pradeaux, Bandol, France: Medium purple, good tears, some sediment. Soft dark fruity nose, liquorice, roots. Medium to plump body, well balanced, bit sweet dark fruit but also kind of austere, soft but intense tannins and bitter agents.  Aftertaste rather austere, tannins and bitter agents. This would benefit from more air. Moderate consume of red wine is said to be healthy - should be true at least for this wine.

29.

2001 Clarendon Hills, Old Vines Grenache, Blewitt Springs Vineyard, Australia: Light and bright ruby, very fat tears, no sediment at all. Raspberries, Cassis, sweet perfumed red berries in the nose. Plump body, bitter sweet red fruit, some acidity behind, good tannins in the background, slightly fat but not hot. Aftertaste a bit sweet, counterbalanced with good acidity and tannins. To some degree this wine shows features of a slightly fat non Burgundy Pinot Noir. Not easy to match with food, may be with sweet dishes like apricot dumplings or even desserts with chocolate or sweet dried fruits like dates. I have no idea how this will age, but this bottle was opened too early I think.

Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.
