2001 Quinta do Crasto, Vinha Maria Teresa, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 96

2001 Quinta do Crasto, Vinha Maria Teresa (single vineyard), Douro Tinto, Portugal: Very brilliant medium purple, dense tears, tints the glass, bit of floating fine sediment. Decent but intense and slightly tartish fruit in the nose, smooth, cool, silky, hint of lime. Medium to full body with everything here: clean fruit, sound acidity, soft persistent tannins. First a bit oaky but this goes away with time, very balanced with a soft tartish touch, hint of finesse. Very long finish, aftertaste according to taste. Great wine. What is missing to perfect: The oaky touch in the start and the slightly tartish note - both things should evolve nicely over time. Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 9 for overall = total score of 96. Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Riedel Vinum Syrah glass

Medium to long finish, slightly coarse tannins, bit hot but not offending. Rather nice for an Australian Syrah. Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92. Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting. Riedel Vinum Burgundy glass. Bottle count reduced by one
