1994 Pontet Canet, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: 88

Optic: Medium ruby, bright, nice tears.
Bouquet: Bit phenolic, else clean dark fruit, mature.
Taste: Medium body, clean dark fruit, nice tannins, good acidity, good balance. Medium finish, hint of persistent tannins.
Overall: Not great but certainly good enough for every day drinking.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 88.

1990 Corino, Vigna Giachini, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 90

Optic: Dark garnet, very clear, fat tears.
Bouquet: Dark nose, low fruit, hint of tar.
Taste: Medium full body, rather crisp acidity, silky tannins. Long finish, persistent tannins.
Overall: Nice bottle of wine, but not in best form.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1995 Fonsalette, Cotes du Rhone, Rhone, France: 91

Optic: Medium bright ruby, clear, nice tears.
Bouquet: Cool dark fruit, clean, phenolic touch, herbs.
Taste: Medium, clean red fruit, crisp acidity, fine velvety tannins. Medium long finish, some sweet-sour drops in the aftertaste.
Overall: For a simple Cotes du Rhone an impressive performance after 11 years in the cellar. No trace of over maturity.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1996 Grivot, Les Boudots, Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru, Burgundy, France: 91

Optic: Light ruby, brilliant, nice tears, no sediment.
Bouquet: Fresh red fruits with phenolic touch, very NSG.
Taste: Medium body, clean red fruit, quite crisp acidity, good grip, nice tannins. Medium long finish, fresh red fruits tartish aftertaste.
Overall: NSG prototype, versatile with food, quite satisfying.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

2000 Planeta Merlot, Sicily, Italy: 88

Optic: Dark ruby, some tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Soft dark velvety fruit, some oak.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, clean dark fruit, soft velvety tannins, good acidity, good balance. Medium long finish, soft fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not great but nice for everyday drinking if you want a wine with some body.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

1989 Conterno, Bussia Soprana, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 90

Optic: Light garnet, brilliant, dense tears, heavy tartaric and phenolic sediment.
Bouquet: Mature nose, earthy.
Taste: Medium body, quite acidic, hint of red fruit, sweet touch, mineral and earth, silky tannins. Long finish, acidic aftertaste.
Overall: Quite mature now - will acidity win?

1999 Poliziano, Le Stanze, Toscana IGT, Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy: 90

Optic: Dark ruby, clear.
Bouquet: Dark red fruit, velvety.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, soft dark red fruit and velvety, low in acidity, bit oaky. Medium long finish, soft velvety tannins.
Overall: Gives nice drinking, rather international style (cuvée of CS, Merlot and Sangiovese).
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1990 Comte Armand, Clos des Epeneaux, Pommard 1er Cru, Burgundy, France: 89

Optic: Medium to dark ruby, brownish core, lots of sediment, some turbidity.
Bouquet: Austere dark nose, not very fruity, rather earthy and mineral notes.
Taste: Medium body, good acidity, bit austere, bit rustic, coarse velvety tannins. Medium long finish, coarse velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Quite the right choice for a very hefty dish, bit rustic and not at all up to the high expectations at release date. Still a serious wine.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 89.
