2002 Fritsch, Foggathal (ZW, CS, ME), Wagram, Donauland, Austria: Optic: Dark to medium garnet, very brilliant, nice tears Bouquet: Soft dark cherry nose, hint of barnyard Taste: Medium body, very soft dark red fruit, slightly caramelised acidity, soft velvety tannins, a bit thin in the middle. Medium finish, soft tannins Overall: Well made, nice and uncomplicated wine
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

2003 Fritsch, Syrah, Wagram, Donauland, Austria: Optic: Medium ruby, bright, fat tears, tints slightly the glass Bouquet: Very soft, delicate, not much of fruit Taste: Medium to medium full body, soft velvety tannins, soft acidity, bit of dark fruit, nice balance if not too soft. Medium to long finish, velvety fruity tannins Overall: Quite a fine bottle from a very good vintage.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

2001 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria, Douro Tinto, Portugal: Optic: Dark slightly opaque purple, dense tears, tints the glass, some floating fine sediment Bouquet: Intense dark fruit, fresh alcoholic touch Taste: Full body, lively acidity, slightly coarse velvety tannins, good balance, good deal of dark fruit. Long finish, velvety, persistent, dark fruity tannins Overall: Again an excellent bottle.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1989 Batailley, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: Optic: Medium garnet, nice tears, some tartaric and condensed phenols sediment Bouquet: Now this is a nice decent barnyard nose Taste: Medium body, very classic Bordeaux, soft acidity, mature fruit, soft velvety tannins. Medium long but nice finish Overall: Not great, but classic Bordeaux.

Medium long finish, soft fruity tannins Overall: Good PN typicity, versatile with food

2004 Aumann, Zweigelt/Cabernet, Thermenregion, Austria: Optic: Light purple, very bright, light rim, nice tears Bouquet: Very young wine, primary red fruit, aromas from fermentation Taste: Medium body, primary fruit, very soft and juicy, velvety sensation, soft acidity, soft tannins. Medium long finish, nice fruity aftertaste Overall: normally I would not look even twice at this wine, not to speak of buying it - don't like Zweigelt and the idea of a Zweigelt/CS cuvée seems strange to me. But this was a present of visiting friends and I had to try it - very rewarding and satisfying wine to be drunken young regardless the score.

2000 Malescot St-Exupery, Margaux, Bordeaux, France: Optic: Light purple to dark ruby, bright, nice tears Bouquet: Not very impressive, still young wine Taste: Medium body, good balance, nice dark red fruit, good acidity, velvety tannins. Medium long finish, soft fruity aftertaste Overall: 12,5% vol alcohol - for vintage 2000 a rather light wine but with lots of flavour.

1990 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Rhone, France: Optic: Light ruby, bright, brick rim, fat tears, sediment baked on the side the bottle Bouquet: Mature fruit aromas, bit resinous, honey comb Taste: Medium body, decent fruit, fine silky acidity, soft velvety tannins, well balanced. Medium to long finish, silky acidity and soft persistent fruity tannins Overall: Each time I open a bottle of this wine I hesitate because I expect something more powerful and get something with a hint of finesse and like it better.

1995 Saint-Jean De Bébian, Prieuré De Saint-Jean De Bébian (Syrah, Grenache, Mouvèdre), Languedoc, France: Optic: Dark ruby, brilliant, dense tears, tints slightly the glass Bouquet: Soft and velvety dark berries in the nose Taste: Full to medium body, sweet dark fruit, soft velvety tannins, good acidity, well balanced. Long finish, persistent tannins, slightly hot in the aftertaste Overall: Gets mature now.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

2004 Heinrich, Zweigelt, Neusiedlersee, Burgenland, Austria: Optic: Rather dense purple, clear, medium viscosity Bouquet: Primary dark red fruit, elderberry, clean, soft velvety, hint of oak Taste: Medium body, taste according to nose means primary dark red fruit, juicy, soft acidity, hint of velvety tannins. Medium to long finish, surprisingly persistent tannins Overall: Bought this wine to marinate a wild boar leg and had to taste it. Costs about 8 Euro and gives good value for this. Is bottled with glass stopper and I will use these bottles as decanter for wine tastings for eliminating guessing by bottle shape.

1998 Jaboulet, La Chapelle, Hermitage, Northern Rhone, France: Optic: Medium garnet, brilliant, fat tears, bit of fine floating sediment Bouquet: Delicate dark red berries, nicely developed Taste: Medium body, note of sweet melting acidity, silky red fruit, nicely balanced. Medium long finish, soft velvety tannins Overall: Fine bottle of Hermitage. Good match with fried foie gras on field salad.

1998 Oliver, Taranga, Shiraz, McLaren, Australia: Optic: Very dark ruby, clear, fat tear, tints the glass. Bouquet: Dark fruit in the nose, velvety tannins, some toast. Taste: Full to medium full body, very intense slightly cooked dark fruit, soft acidity, soft tannins. Medium finish, slightly cooked aftertaste, bit hot. Overall: Intense velvety dark fruit, slightly hot. Perfect match with in red wine caramelised shallots.

1998 Alvaro Palacios, Finca Dofi, Priorato, Spain: Optic: Purple color, dense tears, low sediment. Bouquet: Bit dense, dark fruit dominates, slightly oaky - gets nice over time in the glass. Taste: Medium to medium full body, spicy and bit resinous, good acidity, velvety tannins. Medium long finish, spicy aftertaste. Overall: Dense wine with some resinous notes. Good match with hard cheeses with Mostarda

Taste: Full body, good balance, hint of liquorice, velvety texture. Overall: Smoky dark velvety fruit, perfect match with chocolate coated nuts.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1999 Terrabianca, Ceppate, Toscana IGT (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot), Tuscany, Italy: Optic: Brilliant medium ruby, fat tears, tints slightly the glass, no sediment. Bouquet: Hint of volatile acidity, nice fruity earthy touch, bit tar and minerals, complex note. Taste: Medium body, nice melting acidity, sweet sour drops, good tannins balance. Medium finish, nice sweet sour acidity in the aftertaste, bit coarse tannins. Overall: Like a high cacao content dark chocolate with high acidity note. Nose makes me a bit uneasy about the future of this wine.
