Date: Mon Jan 09, 2006 11:01 pm  Author: Wilfried

Optic: Dark purple, black core, fat tears, tints the glass.
Bouquet: Excellent oak, fresh roasted coffee, dark chocolate, basic hint of barnyard, ascending alcohol.
Taste: Rather full body, dark sweet fruit, very soft and good hidden acidity, mouth impregnating tannins, slightly alcoholic. Long finish, dark sweet persistent velvety tannins.
Overall: Excellent example for a so called Super Tuscan, Redigaffi look alike. Excellent wine considering my prejudice against this type of wine. Needs some air, so decanting would be a good idea - with the risk of the wine falling apart.
Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.
Not blind. Not decanted. Riedel Vinum Syrahglass.

1999 La Spinetta, PIN, Monferrato Rosso, Piedmont, Italy: No score

Date: Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:33 pm  Author: Wilfried

1999 La Spinetta (Rivetti), PIN, Monferrato Rosso (Barbera, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon), Piedmont, Italy: Lots of tiny bubbles in the rim, nose and taste marred by too much dissolved CO2 - second fermentation or simply bad wine making - don't know. The idea alone to make a such cuvée in Piedmont is kind of sick for me. The prospect of having only one more bottle of this wine in my cellar is kind of relief.
