2003 Diel, Caroline, Spätburgunder, Nahe, Germany:
Optic: Medium garnet, fat tears, clear.
Bouquet: Hint of barnyard, some red fruit, soft.
Taste: Medium body, soft fruit, soft tannins, tad of acidity. Medium long finish, silky persistent tannins.
Overall: Wanted to try it again, found it a bit better than last time, but not blind ....
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

1997 Chapoutier, Ermitage Le Méal, Hermitage rouge, Rhone, France:
Optic: Medium ruby/dark garnet with slightly opaque core, fat tears, fine floating sediment,
Bouquet: Sweet rotting vegetals, dark fruit, medicinal note, champignons, quite complex.
Taste: Medium full body, sweet dark red fruit, crisp acidity, silky but strong palate coating tannins. Very long finish, bit hot in the aftertaste.
Overall: May be not great but certainly a wine for a special occasion.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1997 Laffitte-Teston, Vieilles Vignes, Madiran, France:
Optic: Dark purple, opaque core, dense tears.
Bouquet: Sweet spices like cinnamon, cloves, gingerbread, green walnuts.
Taste: Medium body, silky acidity, some dark fruit, soft tannins, touch of sweet green walnuts. Medium long finish, persistent soft tannins.
Overall: This is proof for the ageing potential of this wine. Great bottle for a very reasonable price.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

1985 Vieux Château Certan, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France:
Optic: Medium ruby, fat tears.
Bouquet: Clean dark red fruit, mature.
Taste: Medium body, sweet dark red fruit, crisp acidity, silky tannins. Medium long finish, bit hot in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice mature Pomerol for everyday drinking.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

Not blind. Magnum. Decanted 3 hours before tasting.

1990 Brumont, Montus Prestige, Tannat, Madiran, France:
Optic: Dark purple, clear, good tears, tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Soft and cool dark fruit, bit earthy.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark fruit, velvety tannins, good acidity, good balance. Long finish, soft tannins and fruity acidity in the aftertaste.
Overall: Always a pleasure to such an intense tasting wine with only 12.5% alc vol.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1990 Guigal, Hermitage Rouge, Hermitage, Rhône, France:
Optic: Dark garnet, bright, floating fine sediment.
Bouquet: Bit of barnyard, nice red fruit, mature.
Taste: Medium body, good acidity, hint of red fruit, silky tannins, good balance. Medium to long finish, silky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: I seem lucky here concerning bottle variation.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

1992 Les Cailloux, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Rhone, France:
Optic: Medium garnet, brilliant, fat tears, bit of tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Hint of barnyard, mature sweet red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, soft sweet red fruit, slightly sweet touch, good acidity, soft tannins, good balance. Medium finish, persistent tannins and some fruity acidity in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again a very good bottle.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

2000 Jasper Hill, Georgia's Paddock, Shiraz Heathcote, Australia:
Optic: Dark ruby, clear, fat tears.
Bouquet: Nose after dried dark red fruits, soft.
Taste: Medium full body, intense dark fruit, sweet touch, good tannins. Medium finish, sweet fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not great but nice to drink.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

2004 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape blanc Roussanne VV, Rhone, France:
Optic: Yellow golden, fat tears.
Bouquet: Grape juice aromas, bit fat.
Taste: Full body, not so nice when drunken at white wine temperature, gets better when at room temperature, low acidity, low in fruit, fat and a bit alcoholic, nice tannins. Medium finish.
Overall: In a real blind tasting this wine could very well go for a red even if a limpid one.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

Optic: Light purple, fat tears.
Bouquet: Mature nose, dark fruit.
Taste: Medium body, decent red and dark fruit, soft acidity, silky persistent tannins, earthy note, well balanced. Long finish, persistent velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Again a very nice bottle.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

2003 Paul Achs, Pinot Noir, Neusiedlersee, Burgenland, Austria:
Optic: Medium ruby, clear, fat tears.
Bouquet: Cool dark nose, roasted oaky aromas, hint of red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, cool fruity acidity, fine tannins, bit oaky, else well balanced. Medium finish, oaky velvety tannins.
Overall: This wine has at this moment no memory of being Pinot Noir.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.
