2002 Claus Preisinger, Paradigma (Cuvée BF/ZW/CS), Burgenland, Austria: 90


Optic: Dark ruby with purple hue, bright, good tears.
Bouquet: Dark, cool, bit closed, bit phenolic.
Taste: Medium body, dark fruit, liquorice, slightly acidic, velvety tannins. Long finish long, acidic tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Basically excellent wine, consider the acidic touch when pairing with food.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1995 Beaucastel, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhone, France: 93


Optic: Medium purple, fat tears.
Bouquet: Hint of barnyard, dark red fruit.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, dark red fruit, good acidity, good balance. Long finish, soft velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Impression of great wine confirmed.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

Optic: Light ruby with garnet hue, nice tears, lots of sediment.
Bouquet: Bit resinous, no trace of barnyard, mature.
Taste: Medium body, nice mature red fruit, fine silky acidity, soft velvety tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, soft persistent acidic fruity tannins
Overall: Quite comparable with the 1995 vintage, only maturity differs.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1990 Brumont, Montus Prestige, Tannat, Madiran, France: 92


Optic: Dark purple, clear, nice tears, little sediment.
Bouquet: Soft and cool dark fruit, bit earthy.
Taste: Medium body, velvety dark fruit, soft tannins, good acidity, good balance. Long finish, soft fruity acidic tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Some body.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

Optic: Medium ruby, good tears, some sediment.
Bouquet: Nose first a bit very phenolic, then getting better.
Taste: Medium body, nice dark red fruit, liquorice, good acidity, firm tannins, good balance. Medium long finish with dark fruity aftertaste.
Overall: Reliable.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1994 Angelus, St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France: 92


Optic: Medium purple, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Barnyard note, but of the nice kind, dark fruit.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, soft dark fruit, soft velvety tannins, good acidity, quite balanced. Long finish, silky tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Certainly one of the best of the 1994 Bordeaux vintage.

1996 Trapet, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France: 91


Optic: Light garnet, light rim, orange hue, no sediment at all.
Bouquet: Very decent, very mature, whiff of classic NSG nose with taint of lovage.
Taste: Medium to medium slim body, soft mature red fruit, quite crisp acidity, silky tannins with good grip, good balance. Long finish, silky sweet-sour tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: May be a bit too mature for this vintage but certainly an wine to enjoy.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

2003 Quinta do Crasto, Reserva Old Vines, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 92


Optic: Dark purple, fat tears.
Bouquet: Velvety phenolic touch, dark fruit.
Taste: Full body, very concentrated dark fruit, good acidity, strong velvety tannins. Long finish, nice aftertaste
Overall: Like these Douro wines a lot.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

2003 Quinta do Crasto, Tinta Roriz, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 92


Optic: Remarkable dark for a Tinta Roriz, fat tears, bubbles in the rim.
Bouquet: Soft silky nose, raspberries.
Taste: Medium full body, clean raspberry fruit, bit rustic acidity, strong silky tannins with peppery touch. Long finish, nice aftertaste.
Overall: Not as elegant as Tinta Roriz often can be, but certainly an interesting bottle if you ignore the price tag.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1990 Corino, Vigna Giachini, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 93


Optic: Brilliant medium ruby/dark garnet.
Bouquet: Soft and silky, cool, hint of red fruit.
Taste: Medium to slim body, crisp silky acidity, soft velvety tannins, very elegant, good balance. Long to medium finish, clean aftertaste, soft velvety tannins.
Overall: It is hard to believe: This wine has 14% vol alcohol and tastes quite slim. Great.

2002 Velich, Moric, Alte Reben, Blaufränkisch, Lutzmannsburg, Burgenland, Austria: 90


Optic: Medium ruby.
Bouquet: Velvety nose, red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, red and dark fruit, nice acidity, fine grained tannins, well balanced, slightly sweet. Medium long finish, soft persistent tannins.
Overall: May be not great but certainly quite good.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1995 Rayas, Chateauneuf du Pape rouge, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhone, France: 94


Optic: Medium ruby, fat tears.
Bouquet: Bit phenolic, touch of Cote Nuits Grand Cru nose, small but nice stink, slightly pungent.
Taste: Medium full body, nice red fruit, touch of not so typical Cote Nuits Grand Cru (think Perrot-Minot Chambertin), very long finish, intense persistent tannins.
Overall: Great wine.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 94.

Optic: Dark garnet, fat tears.
Bouquet: Delicate red fruit.
Taste: Medium to medium full body, dark red fruit, delicate acidity, persistent tannins, very good balance. Long finish, velvety persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great bottle again.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 94.
