2003 Krutzler, Merlot, Burgenland, Austria: 89

Optic: Medium purple, fat tears, bright.
Bouquet: Hint of mint, clean dark fruit, silky.
Taste: Plump body, sappy and dense dark fruit, licorice, hint of mint, spike of acidity through the fruit, soft silky tannins. Long finish, persistent dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: New world fruity touch, tad too fruity to be versatile with food.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 89.

Not blind. Decanted shortly before tasting.

1996 Knoll, Loibner Grüner Veltliner „Federspiel“, Wachau, Niederösterreich, Austria: 89

Optic: Light golden yellow, bright.
Bouquet: Floral nose, delicate yellow fruit.
Taste: Slim body, hint of Sherry, delicate yellow fruit, good acidity, low in tannins. Medium to short finish, delicate fruity acidity in the aftertaste, hint of Sherry.
Overall: Surprisingly vivid, vin de plaisir. Excellent with very light dishes, avoid heavy ones.

1997 Scavino, Carobric, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 89

Optic: Medium ruby, brilliant, fat tears.
Bouquet: Clean dark fruit with mineral twinge.
Taste: Medium body, bitter sweet fruit, good acidity, hint of fruit drops, sweet and soft coarse velvety tannins. Long finish, sweet fruit and coarse velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Bit better than the last bottle I had from this wine. Too fruity to be a "real" Barolo.

1990 Rampolla, Sammarco, IGT, Tuscany, Italy: 90

Optic: Dark ruby, some sediment.
Bouquet: Clean dark fruit with resinous hint.
Taste: Rather full body, juicy dark fruit, good acidity, velvety tannins with resinous touch. Medium long finish, resinous fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Gets already a bit overmature it seems. Overall slightly broad on the palate especially with raising temperature.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 90.

1994 Pichon Longueville Comtesse Lalande, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: 91

Optic: Dark ruby, some sediment.
Bouquet: Clean - impossible to get more with this glass.
Taste: Medium body, clean dark fruit, fine acidity, decent tannins, good balance - quite refreshing if cool enough. Medium long finish, soft fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Perfect wine for a picnic in the vineyard.

1994 Montrose, St. Estephe, Bordeaux, France: 90

Optic: Dark purple, some sediment.
Bouquet: Only a hint of brett, soft dark fruit.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark fruit, soft acidity, soft velvety tannins. Medium long finish, soft dark fruity velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Overall a bit too soft to be of real interest. Better to drink this at cellar temperature - if you are out in the heat of the day you should care for some cooling, else the wine falls apart with raising temperature.

1992 Les Cailloux, Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Rhone, France: 91

Optic: Medium garnet, light rim, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Nice animal barnyard hint, mature sweet red fruit, complex.
Taste: Medium body, soft bitter sweet red fruit, silky melting acidity, soft silky tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, persistent sweet fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Having again a bottle of this wine is like coming home.

1991 Fonsalette, Syrah, Cotes du Rhone, Rhone, France: 92

Optic: Dark ruby, brilliant but same time bit dusty, very fat tears.
Bouquet: Dark fruit, animal touch, liquorice, spices and herbs.
Taste: Plump body, intense dark fruit, concentrated to the degree of some bitterness, good acidity, dense tannins. Long finish, soft tannins and dense dark fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Still pretty much to settle with ageing here. Impressive wine.

1990 Duhart-Milon Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: 90

Optic: Dark ruby/purple with floating sediment.
Bouquet: Intense dark fruit, licorice.
Taste: Full body, intense dark fruit, licorice, sappy, good acidity, soft tannins. Long finish, persistent tannins with black pepper in the aftertaste.
Overall: Quite enjoyable.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1997 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: 87

Optic: Medium garnet, bright.
Bouquet: Clean red fruit, not very intense.
Taste: Medium full body, soft red fruit, good acidity, soft tannins. Rather short finish, clean red fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: According to the expectations in regard of the vintage.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

1990 Pavie, St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France: 92

Optic: Dark purple, bright.
Bouquet: Dark fruit, some toast.
Taste: Rather full body, spicy dark red fruit, silky acidity, soft persistent tannins. Quite long finish, persistent tannins with black pepper in the aftertaste.
Overall: Very nice bottle. Had only a single sip, so this note is quite a snapshot.

2003 Baillat, Cuvée Emilien Baillat - Barrique 1, Corbiere, France: 95

Optic: Dense purple, bright, tints the glass, extremely dense tears.
Bouquet: Green walnuts, sweet spices and herbs. Empty glass smells after honey comb with only enough of a hint of volatile acidity to give some complexity.
Taste: Full body, incredible dense and intensive dark fruit, very clean, acidity well integrated, sweet tannins, good balance despite the intensity. Very long finish, sweet bitter tannins comparable with very dark chocolate in the aftertaste.
Overall: Incredible value. Comparable with a very top dry Douro wine with the intensity of a dry Vintage Port.

Optic: Dense purple, bright.
Bouquet: Green walnuts, sweet spices and herbs.
Taste: Plump body, clean dark fruit, acidity well integrated, soft tannins, good balance. Long finish, sweet bitter tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great value, satisfying.

Optic: Dark purple, tints the glass, dense tears.
Bouquet: Fresh crushed dark fruit, toasted oak.
Taste: Very plump body, dark berries, good acidity, bit coarse tannins. Medium long finish, fruity bit coarse tannins in the aftertaste
Overall: Powerful but bit rustic.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 89.

2005 Negly, La Falaise, Languedoc blanc, La Clape, Languedoc, France: 88

Optic: Bright dark golden yellow, fat tears.
Bouquet: Butter and nuts, fat.
Taste: Medium full body, yellow fruit, some spiky acidity, soft tannins, fat. Medium long finish, slightly hot.
Overall: Typical fat southern France white wine. Cuvée of Marsanne and Roussanne. Delicious before bottling - fining and filtration eliminated the exquisite mouth feeling.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

1982 Schindler, Weissburgunder Spätläse, Mörbisch, Burgenland, Austria: 90

Optic: Yellow golden, very bright, thick tears.
Bouquet: Yellow mellow fruit, hint of Botrytis.
Taste: Full body, sweet yellow mellow fruit, caramelized hint, good acidity, no tannins. Medium long finish, prickling sweet yellow fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great match with apricot dumplings.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

2005 Dauvissat, Irancy, Burgundy, France: 89

Optic: Dark garnet, brilliant.
Bouquet: Clean dark red fruits.
Taste: Medium body, crisp dark red fruit, very good acidity, soft tannins with earthy note, good balance. Medium long finish, clean fruit and soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Did it again - one case of Dauvissat Irancy as red summer wine. 2005 seems to be a perfect vintage for Irancy.

2003 Baillat, Cuvée Emilien Baillat, Corbiere, France: 92

Optic: Black purple, bright.
Bouquet: Dark fruit, spices and herbs.
Taste: Plump body, very intense dark fruit, Blackberry, good acidity, soft dense tannins, good balance. Long finish, sweet dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Just to confirm the first impression - great bottle again. Fruit may be a tad too intense.
