Optic: Dark ruby, purple hint, fat tears.
Bouquet: Cool vanilla.
Taste: Plump body, awkward sweetish, hard tannins, rustic acidity, dark fruit, out of balance. Medium long finish, sweetish aftertaste.
Overall: Bad match with food, wine seems to fall apart, recovery is not very likely.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 5 for overall = total score of 87.

1991 Chapoutier, Cuvée de l'Orée, Hermitage blanc, Rhone, France: 92


Optic: Brilliant gold.
Bouquet: Soft, nutty, floral.
Taste: Plump body, very soft, floral, no noticeable acidity, slightly fat, bit alcoholic. Long finish, delicate acidity interestingly only in the aftertaste, persistent silky tannins.
Overall: Wine of interest.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

2000 Mastrojanni, Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy: 90


Optic: Medium garnet, good viscosity.
Bouquet: Nice clean dark red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, clean dark red fruit, well integrated acidity, not too soft deal of tannins. Medium long finish, soft cool velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Very nice Rosso di Montalcino.

Optic: Brilliant medium ruby, very dense tears.
Bouquet: Hint of barnyard, cool, dark red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, excellent balance, some clean dark red fruit, soft silky tannins, acidity well masked. Medium long finish, some acidity at the very end of the aftertaste.
Overall: Some finesse here.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1990 Aldo Conterno, Bussia Soprana, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 92


Optic: Light ruby, fat tears, floating and baked sediment.
Bouquet: Bit pungent, delicate dark red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, delicate dark red fruit, good masked acidity, silky persistent tannins, earthy note, hint of truffles, good balance. Long finish, persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Very classic and mature Barolo, no TCA taint this time.

Optic: Red golden, brilliant, fat tears.
Bouquet: Nuts, delicate no fruit aromas.
Taste: Medium full body, low to no fruit, low to no acidity, soft tannins, dry in a special way like a sweet wine without the sugar. Medium long finish, soft persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Quite nice.

1988 Joseph Drouhin Chablis, Burgundy, France: 90


Optic: Amber golden, clear, fat tears.
Bouquet: Quite oxidised, nuts.
Taste: Medium to slim body, prominent acidity, no fruit, nutty aromas. Long finish, soft tannins and crisp acidity lingering on the palate.
Overall: Did not expect anything from a generic Chablis this old and was nicely surprised. Gained with rising temperature in the glass.

Optic: Brilliant golden yellow, fat tears.
Bouquet: Soft flowery, oak hint.
Taste: Medium body, delicate fruity, soft acidity, oaky silky tannins, good balance. Long finish, oaky persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Good match with fusion food.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1996 Velich, Muskat Ottonel TBA, Burgenland, Austria: 88


Optic: Red golden, bright, tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Soft Botrytis note, Muscat Ottonel.
Taste: Full body, oily texture, crisp acidity, sweet Muscat Ottonel. Medium long finish, slightly bitter sweet aftertaste.
Overall: Nice match with nougat dumplings.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 88.

2002 Roberto Bellini, Leonensis, Sant' Antimo Rosso, Tuscany, Italy: 87


Optic: Clear dark garnet, good viscosity.
Bouquet: First whiff of brett, after a while slightly green red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, bit thin in the middle, slightly green red fruit, crisp acidity, tannins a bit harsh. Medium long to short finish, slightly coarse tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: OK with food, else a bit rustic.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 5 for overall = total score of 87.

2004 Böheim, Blaufränkisch Reserve, Carnuntum, Austria: 92


Optic: Dark ruby, black core, violet rim, bright, fat tears.
Bouquet: Very dark fruit, velvety, bit phenolic.
Taste: Rather full body, sweet dense concentrated dark fruit, strang acidity behind, velvety tannins, good balance. Long finish, bitter velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Not exactly typical for the variety - similar to a Douro dry red with some Vintage Port character.
Score: 50 + 5 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 92.

1990 Prunotto, Montestefano, Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy: 93


Optic: Brilliant medium garnet, watery rim, fat tears.
Bouquet: Delicate pungent white truffle note, hint of dark red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, mature red fruit, delicate acidity, persistent velvety tannins, good balance. Very long finish, sweet fruity acid persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Great bottle again, mature now.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93.

1990 Scavino, Bric del Fiasc, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 90


Optic: Medium ruby, very watery rim, heavy sediment.
Bouquet: Mineral earthy, slightly pungent.
Taste: Medium full body, bit broad dark red fruit, velvety tannins, good acidity, quite mature. Long finish, broad fruity velvety tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Used this for Barolo braised oxtail and had to taste a glass. Seems a bit tired already.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.
