1997 Fonsalette, Reserve, Cotes du Rhone, Rhone South, France: 87

Optic: Light brilliant ruby.
Bouquet: Tiny hint of brett, nose similar to a simple Nuit-St-Georges.
Taste: Slim body, red berries, bit rustic acidity, slightly coarse tannins. Long finish, persistent coarse tannins mingled with slightly sweet red fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Simple wine, with pleasure to drink with a simple dinner - Quite a difference to the bad bottle 2 weeks ago
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 6 for overall = total score of 87.

2001 Mocali, Brunello di Montalcino, Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy: 91

Optic: Dark ruby, bright, no sediment.
Bouquet: Clean dark fruit, young.
Taste: Medium body, clean dark fruit, crisp acidity, slightly hard tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, fruity acid tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Very good match with "Martinigansl" (roasted goose with potato dumplings and red cabbage).
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1994 Voge, Vieilles Fontaines, Cornas, Rhône, France: 91

Optic: Very light ruby, brilliant, bit of flaoting sediment at the bottom.
Bouquet: Clean red fruit and spices.
Taste: Medium to lean body, clean red fruit, strong acidity spine, silky tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, clean aftertaste.
Overall: Perfect wine with food. Surprisingly slim for a Syrah. Burgundy style
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

1990 Brumont, Montus Prestige, Tannat, Madiran, France: 92

Optic: Dark purple, heavy tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Some brett and cool dark fruit.
Taste: Medium body, soft dark fruit, velvety tannins, soft acidity, very good balance. Long finish, soft velvety tannins and dark fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Prime example of a wine powerful enough to bear some brett with grace and enhanced complexity.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

2005 Schwarz, Weiß, Burgenland, Austria: 91

Optic: Light yellow green golden, bright.
Bouquet: Soft yellow fruit, velvety.
Taste: Full to medium body, soft acidity, yellow fruit - may be a touch more intense as usual, silky tannins, good balance. Long finish, nice fruity in the aftertaste.
Overall: This should be drunken not too cold - else the specific features of this wine are lost.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 91.

2005 Negly, La Falaise, Languedoc blanc, La Clape, Languedoc, France: 90

Optic: Light golden yellow, fat tears.
Bouquet: Soft velvety yellow fruit.
Taste: Medium full body, soft yellow fruit, soft crisp acidity, nice tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, persistent soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Good performance again. Can be drunken over several days form the open bottle in the fridge without significant derogation.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

2003 Niepoort, Batuta, Douro Tinto, Portugal: 93

Optic: Powerful purple, bright, nearly opaque.
Bouquet: Phenolic but not exactly bretty, hint of volatile acidity - borderline nose, but on the nice side.
Taste: Medium to full body, cool dark fruit, acidity and tannins powerful and well balanced. Long finish, slightly bitter palate impregnating tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Dry port. Pleasure.
