1998 Trapet, Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, Gevrey-Chambertin, Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France: 92

Optic: Medium to light garnet, bright, no sediment.
Bouquet: Delicate red fruit, mature, spicy, classic.
Taste: Medium body, soft mature red fruit, delicate acidity, silky tannins with good grip, very good balance. Long finish, silky red fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Goes excellent with fish and shellfish, also with red coated cheese.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 92.

1994 Pontet Canet, Pauillac, Bordeaux, France: 90

Optic: Medium ruby, bright, some tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Mature dark red fruit, bit resinous.
Taste: Medium body, mature dark red fruit, soft tannins, good acidity, good balance. Medium long finish, velvety dark red fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice bottle for a 1994 Bordeaux.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1978 Hoch, Kremser Riesling, Hollenburg, Austria: 85

Optic: Light yellow golden, bright, no sediment.
Bouquet: Mature yellow fruit, very slight hint of petrol.
Taste: Medium to slim body, hint of firn, delicate yellow fruit, soft acidity, good balance, no tannins. Medium long finish, clean aftertaste.
Overall: Did not expect anything but a dead bottle and was nicely surprised ...

2004 Rocca di Castagnoli, Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy: 89

Optic: Dark garnet, brilliant, no sediment.
Bouquet: Clean soft red fruit.
Taste: Medium body, clean red fruit, good acidity, soft tannins, good balance. Medium long finish, soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Also at home a nice bottle, not only on vacations in the Chianti area.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 16 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 89.

1998 Allegrini, Amarone, Veneto, Italy: 87

Optic: Very dark ruby, fat tears, no sediment.
Bouquet: Slightly oxidized black fruit.
Taste: Full body, concentrated sweet primary black fruit, good acidity, tannins hidden behind the fruit, quite hot. Long finish, hot caked sweet dark fruit in the aftertaste.
Overall: Too sweet and hot to go with food (this is what wine is basically made for), no big pleasure stand alone, not very good with bitter sweets like dark chocolate. This wine is not for me

1994 Montrose, St. Estephe, Bordeaux, France: 90

Optic: Medium ruby, some tartaric sediment.
Bouquet: Dark fruit, bit resinous.
Taste: Medium body, dark red fruit, nice acidity, tannins bit rustic. Medium long finish, rustic dark fruity tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Good enough to go with a simple dinner.
Score: 50 + 4 for optic + 12 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 7 for overall = total score of 90.

1990 Aldo Conterno, Bussia Soprana, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy: 91

Optic: Light garnet.
Bouquet: Mineralic, bit pungent white truffles.
Taste: Medium to slim body, soft red fruit, good acidity, silky tannins, mineralic, good balance. Medium long finish, persistent tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Quite mature.
Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 13 for bouquet + 17 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 91.

2005 Negly, La Falaise, Languedoc blanc, La Clape, Languedoc, France: 91

Optic: Light golden yellow, bright, no sediment.
Bouquet: Hint of lemon, soft.
Taste: Medium full body, yellow fruit, soft crisp acidity, soft tannins. Medium long finish, persistent soft tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Nice bottle again. Excellent value.

1996 Clavel, Copa Santa, Méjanelle, Languedoc, France: 91

Optic: Medium purple, clear, tartaric sediment baked on the side of the bottle.
Bouquet: Clean, cool dark berries.
Taste: Medium full body, quite sweet black fruit, good acidity, silky tannins. Medium long aftertaste, sweet dark fruit and some tannins in the aftertaste.
Overall: Surprisingly fruity for this age.
