Jaques Reynaud, der Anfang 1997 verstorben ist, war ein exzentrischer Weinmacher, der auf Basis geringster Flächenerträge (die von seinen Kollegen als ökonomischer Irrwitz betrachtet wurden) mit althergebrachten Methoden in guten Jahren erstaunliche Ergebnisse erzielt hat.

Parker meint: Jaques Reynaud produziert die dekadentesten und hedonistischten Weine von Chateauneuf du Pape. "Reynaud, who is among the last to harvest in Chateauneuf du Pape, requires dry, sunny weather in late September and early October to fashion his riveting style - the Le Pin of Chateauneuf du Pape (but no new oak is used)! His wines can be unequaled in their perfumed richness, complexity, and layers of sweet fruit."

Dunkelbeeriges Bouquet, vorerst etwas mineralisch und verschlossen – dann zu Kopf steigend.

Für einen Rhonewein erstaunlich viel Tannin und Säure. Lang anhaltender Nachgeschmack.

Großer Wein.

Parker: Der 89 Rayas hat sich zu einer außergewöhnlichen Flasche Wein entwickelt. Reynaud bevorzugt ihn sogar gegenüber seinem 90er. Hohes Lob. Derzeit zeigt er ein hohes Maß an Tannin. Trotz seiner frühen Reife braucht dieser Wein 5-6 Jahre um seine wahre Herkunft zu zeigen. Er hat das Potential für Jahre Lagerung. Die Farbe ist dunkles Rubin, das Bouquet ist nach Kirsche vermischt mit Rauch, Erde und gerösteten Nüssen. Extrem konzentriert mit beinahe portweinähnlicher Konsistenz ist das ein wunderbar gemachter, reicher, voller und berauschender Wein, der einer besonderen Anstrengung wert ist, um an ihn überhaupt heranzukommen. 96 Punkte

Parker: Die Fonsalette Cuvée aus 100 % Syrah ist Reynauds best gehütetes Geheimnis. Sein Syrah Weingarten wurde mit Stecklingen aus den Hermitagelagen von Gerard Chave gezogen. Die 89er Cuvée Syrah ist noch langsamer in der Entwicklung als der Rayas 89. Ich würde sie in den nächsten 10 Jahren noch nicht trinken und erwarte weitere 25 Jahre Lagerfähigkeit. Der Wein zeigt außergewöhnliche Intensität, schwarze/Rubin/Purpur-Farbe, ein riesiges Bouquet nach schwarzen Himbeeren und ein begeisternd langes, öliges Finisch mit moderatem Tannin. 93 Punkte

Parker: The only profound wine in the current offerings from Jacques Reynaud is the 1991 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Syrah. An amazing opaque, black/purple color is followed by a huge nose of roasted herbs and cassis that roars from the glass. With a natural alcohol of more than 14% (from yields of 20-25 hectoliters per hectare), this massive, phenomenally extracted, gigantic wine needs 10 years of cellaring! It should last for 20-30 years. I purchased and cellared the 1978 Fonsalette Cuvee Syrah and it is not even close to maturity after nearly 16 years of aging! The awesome 1991 tastes as if it came from a top vintage. 92+ Punkte

Parker: The austere, medium ruby-colored 1993 Rayas exhibits fragrant, spicy, ripe berry fruit, medium body, and a clean, fresh, straightforward finish. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Jacques Reynaud is not pleased with what has happened at Rayas since the creation of his profound 1990. He declassified all of his Rayas in 1991. He produced a good 1992, and a light, fruity, soft 1993 and 1994. (Contrary to what I reported in issue #93, dated 6/30/94, not all of the 1993 production was declassified.) To put it in perspective, tasters who are familiar with the 1986 Rayas will find the 1993 and 1994 comparable in quality and personality. By the standards of this great estate, they are pleasant, but uninspiring wines. When it rains, Reynaud is often caught with fruit that is not physiologically mature enough, and the result is dilution. 87 Punkte

Parker: 14,5% Alkoholgehalt. This black-colored, staggeringly rich wine is not far behind the other-wordly 1995. It hits the palate with a crescendo of massive portions of cassis fruit, smoke, earth and Asian spices. Extremly thick, uctuous and moderately tannic. This is an enormously-endowed, gargantuan Syrah that will require 7-10 years of cellaring. It is another 30-year wine. 94 Punkte

Parker’s erste Worte Oktober 95: After tasting through the component parts of the 1994 Rayas, it appears to be a cousin of the 1993, although slightly riper with more fruit. It is a medium-bodied, unsubstantial style of Rayas. Like the 1993, it will have a fast evolutionary track and will require drinking during its first decade of life. 85-87 Punkte

Parker im August 96: The 1994 Rayas has turned out to be a classic. Resembling the 1988, but more forward and sweeter, it displays a deep ruby/purple color, and a gorgeously fragrant nose of framboise, kirsch and black rasberries. Dense and full bodied with a sweet mid-section, this well proportioned, stylish yet authoritatively powerful and rich Rayas has turned out to be a noteworthy success. It should dring well for 12-16 years. 92+ Punkte

Parker: Glorious example of what heights Grenache can achieve. It does not posess the unrestrained opulence and over-ripeness of the 1990. The color is dense, rich purple, and the nose offers up unmistakable scents of kirsch, cassis, and roasted peanuts. Full bodied with magnificent concentration yet striking definition, this is a Rayas that offers all the power and hedonistic richness of the great vintages, but manages to infuse the wine’s massive richness with a sense of elegance and focus. It is a super-concentrated, gorgeously made seamless wine that will propel Rayas freaks into fits of ecstasy. The acidity level is surprising given ist high extract and richness. Expect the 1995 Rayas to age well for two decades after cellaring of 5-6 years. 95-98 Punkte

Parker: Exhibits a sweet, expansive personality with gobs of fruit, surprisingly crisp acidity for such ripeness and intensity. Full body, spectacular concentration and purity. 90 Punkte

Essen : AlsVorspeise herrlich zarte Gänseleber, leicht angebraten, am Apfelbett. Dazu Ruster Ausbruch Essenz 1995 von Feiler-Artinger. Als Hauptgericht knusprig angebratener Spanferkelrücken mir Rotkraut und Kartoffeln. Ein deftiges Gericht mit erstaunlicher Harmonie zum Rayas und Fonsalette. Zum Nachtisch gab es lombardischen Apfelkuchen und Datteln.

Genereller Eindruck: Ein schöner Abend auf den Punkt gebracht.
